Dan's Graphic Forecast (RASP) PDF Print E-mail

Daniel Gebhart, a pilot graduated from Hangglide Utah! has installed RASP (Regional Atmosferic Soaring Prediction), a weather prediction tool specialized in localized areas. Make sure you check the date and hour the forecast is for as they are sometimes not refreshed daily.

Dan explains a bit how to read the images:

I've got a forecast program running localized forecasts for our area. It is a RASP by Dr. Jack (google it). I have a page that displays some of the most useful info (surface wind, boundary layer wind, Thermal updraft velocity, Cu cloudbase, etc.. at times 11:00 AM , 2:00 PM, and 5:00 PM

The forecast is supposed to run every day at 7:30 PM or so, finishing around 11:00 PM, to provide a forecast for the next day. I'm having trouble with the "scheduler", so it might not reliably run every day. Check the dates of the images to be sure.

It seems to be spot-on most of the time. All the soarable days last week (a local paraglider had 4 days reaching cloudbase...) it indeed showed good thermal strength in the proper areas (such as the "Gap").

Anyway, hope you find it useful! If it turns out to be REALLY useful in finding good days this summer, I will gladly accept donations in the form of rides up to Commodore Wink or other kickback (I did work many, many hours setting it up...)
You can make out POM to the right of the images where the terrain "pinches" in. Commodore is in the center of the image. Bauer is the terrain "pinch" to the left, and Jedi somewhere to the way left.

These are the "hi-res" images. I also have "zoomed out" versions that cover much of the valley, including Inspo and Camels.
