Its no secret, purchasing used gear can really make a buck go a long ways, or so it may seem.  The truth of the matter is when purchasing what should be their first entry level glider, the new pilot will be enticed into sinking between $500 to $1500 into a used intermediate glider.  One reason for this is often times its difficult to find an entry level glider that is in good condition, the right size at a decent price.  Other times, the new pilot is afraid that he, or she will outgrow their entry level glider too quickly and believe that jumping up to a more advanced glider would be more practical.

Intermediate to advanced rated gliders are often times a dime a dozen.  Like the Wills Wing Sport American and Euro, or the Moyes Formula. There are a lot of them out there.  New pilots get loured into purchasing these gliders, but soon discover that its above their skill level and quickly become discouraged and fearful.  They soon find out that the glider doesn't turn or handle as expected.  They become alarmed when they inadvertently discover their first slipping turn and find themselves dropping out of the sky.  Performing a coordinated turn now has new meaning!

Unfortunately, this often results with the new pilot dropping out of the flying scene.  The risk is now greater than the reward.  Their savings in purchasing that intermediate glider has become a waste of money, as well as the money spent on training and the time they invested.

The old saying, "he, or she, out grew their glider" is really not the issue anymore when purchasing an entry level glider, such as a Falcon.   Falcons are now known to be flying over a hundred miles in XC competitions!

Hang gliding doesn't have to be terrifying, or death defying.  Its supposed to be fun!

So, when your purchasing equipment, whether its a glider, harness, and, or parachute, consider it as an essential building block that will enhance your learning, safety and fun.  Whatever the type of gear you purchase, it must fit, feel and fly the way that you expect, and be within your limits.

Fly Safe!
